Prioritize Your Core Task

Introduction — Every day presents us with dozens of tasks, but not all tasks are equal. Some move us forward in life and career, while others simply keep us busy. The secret to productivity is not doing more, but doing what matters most.

Story / Analogy — Picture a lumberjack with a forest of trees to cut. If he spends the day chopping small branches, he’ll feel busy but achieve little. But if he focuses on the largest tree, the forest opens up. Your day works the same way: cut down the “big tree” first.

Practical Steps to Prioritize Your Core Task
  1. Identify the Big Task — If I only did one thing today, what would make the biggest difference?
  2. Do It First — Block time in the morning when your energy is highest.
  3. Break It Into Steps — If the task feels overwhelming, divide it into smaller actions.
  4. Protect the Time — Treat your core task like an appointment. Say no to interruptions.
Reflection Exercise
Write down your top 3 tasks for tomorrow. Circle the one that will have the biggest impact. Commit to doing it first, before anything else.

Success is not about doing everything. It’s about doing the right thing at the right time. When you prioritize your core task, you stop being busy and start being effective.
