Dhyāna Yoga — The Yoga of Meditation

Essence of the Chapter

English

This chapter is the practical manual of meditation. Krishna teaches that a true yogi is one who acts without attachment — renunciation and meditation are two sides of the same discipline. He describes the posture, the seat, the control of breath and mind, and the steady focus on the Self. The mind is restless by nature, like the wind, but by constant practice (abhyāsa) and dispassion (vairāgya) it can be brought under control. Even a fallen yogi loses nothing: no effort on this path is ever wasted. The chapter ends by declaring the devotee of God as the greatest of all yogis.
